The Guinness Book of World Records has named the JCB GT the record-holder for the fastest backhoe on the globe. Officials bestowed the title on the machine in Sydney, Australia, where they witnessed the JCB GT traveling at a speed of 72.58 miles per hour, which was more than 4 miles per hour faster than the established record threshold.
"The JCB GT is unofficially known as the world's fastest backhoe, and this run will finally make it official," Hylton Taylor, JCB CEA Executive General Manager, told the media before the demonstration. "We're excited to see how it performs ... More than two years of research and development went into producing the GT, so I'm sure it will exceed expectations."
So what makes this backhoe the fastest of them all? According to the British manufacturer:
- 454 Chevrolet Big-Block V8 engine

JCB Demonstration Driver Matthew Lucas, 43 years old and nicknamed "The Dig," drove the machine to its new world record status. You can see the JCB GT in action on the company's YouTube channel.
